Why Do You Need A Branded Email Address

Most of the business owners online or offline keep using their free email addresses for business purposes, this is a mistake, in this post, I am going to share with you the reasons why do you need a branded email address for your business.

Why Do You Need A Branded Email Address

What is the branded email address?

A branded email address quite simply is an email address or set of email addresses that carry the same name as an overall brand; for example, if a person works for passiveincomejet.com, they may also choose to have an email address such as staffname@passiveincomejet.com.

Probably you are the only person in your business right now you just need to choose the name for your business, register a domain name, and add an email associated with your domain name.

Many hosting packages now come with the option of creating numerous email addresses associated with the domain name that you’ve registered, meaning that creating branded emails doesn’t have to be a complex or disjunctive task.

The reasons to have a branded email address

Brand name association

It is easier for your customers, readers, or viewers to recognize your emails if it has the same name as your brand, if they read content from covertincome.com they need to see that the email they get is related to that domain, this will give them another reason to open your email.

It increases trust

In online business, people buy from the person they like and trust, having a branded email address will help to increase trust from your audience, most spammers do not have a branded email address, they are not a brand.

It adds coherence

Having an overall brand name or website name and then having email addresses with different names can be very confusing. Confused people do not buy.

It probably won’t cost you anything

If you have a hosting plan you may not require to pay extra cash to have your branded email address, most of the big hosting companies like Bluehost will let you create a branded email for free.

It increases your deliverability

This is because the most important factor in email deliverability is domain reputation, and when you send mail from a Gmail account, you’re actually using Gmail’s reputation, not your own.

NOTE: Even if your provider does not currently block email, it is highly likely that all email providers will do so in the near future.

The best way forward is to create an email address at a domain that you own, so you can start building up your own domain reputation.

How to get your own branded email address

There are normally three ways to add email to your domain and start sending emails with that address.

1. Where you bought your domain

Almost all domain providers will be able to provide you with an option to add an email to your purchase.

Then you will have the name@domain.com address you need, and even if you do not set up the Inbox entirely you can still set up forwarding to your normal Gmail or Yahoo address.

2. Where you host your website

Many people buy their domain at the same place they host their website. Bluehost and HostGator all offer both domains and hosting, so they are popular all-in-one options.

3. Google Workplace

Did you know you can still use Gmail with your domain email? It is true!

You can use Google Workplace to manage your domain email address, plus Google Docs, Sheets, and more! Click here to sign up and get started, plans begin at $6/month.

Why Do You Need A Branded Email Address

That is it, those are the reasons why do you need a branded email address and how you can get one, either from your hosting company, your domain registrar company or by using Google Workspace, I set my email address by using Google Workspace.

7 Steps to Start Email Marketing for Beginners

7-STEPS-TO-START-EMAIL-MARKETING-FOR-BEGINNERS

Email marketing is one of the best money making model known to the humankind, think about this, how many persons do you know who have an email address, for me everyone I know has at least two of them.

Everyone is competing for your email, do you want to sign up for Facebook, YouTube, Instagram or any other social media, they want your email, do you want to find a job one of the things they will ask you is to provide your email address.

That is why in this post I am going to tell you why you need to do email marketing and 7 steps to start email marketing for beginners.

Before we move on let me answer some of the questions you might have, in case I didn’t answer your question, in particular, let me know in the comment section below.

What is email marketing?

Email marketing is the act of sending a commercial message, typically to a group of people, using email. In its broadest sense, every email sent to a potential or current customer could be considered email marketing.

What are the best email marketing services?

This is not a simple question to answer, there are a lot of good email marketing services out there, from high-end ones like Infusionsoft or Consfusionsoft as I like to call them, they are very good but very complicated to understand and very expensive, you will need to hire somebody to do it for you or dedicate a lot of time learning how to use them.

Also, there are lower end email marketing services, like MailChimp which are free to get started but they have a very complex design.

So if we take into account the price of the service and how easy is to use them, for me ConvertKit and Aweber are the best email marketing services at the moment.

How can I email marketing for free?

Yes, you can start email marketing for free, ConvertKit offers a free two weeks trial, all you need is to register using your email, no credit card required, you can get your ConvertKit free trial here.

*If you finish your onboarding training with them when you sign up, they will send you a ConvertKit Tshirt for free.

Aweber also offers a 30 days free trial, with Aweber you will need to provide your credit/debit card.

You can get your Aweber free trial here.

What is an email marketing strategy?

An email marketing strategy is part of your overall marketing strategy and business plan. It helps you market your products and services with the use of the email channel with the best chances for making a profit and reaching your goals.

What is the best email marketing platform?

Personally, I tried almost every email marketing platform on the market, and I will tell you with confidence that ConvertKit is the best email marketing platform.

They have easy design, simple and yet very powerful automation, you can integrate them with most of the other tools you need to run your business and the feature I like the most is their tagging feature, you can tag people on your list according to the products they bought from you, the way they joined your newsletter, the lead magnet they used to opt-in, the links they clicked, etc, your imagination is the limit.

You can read my experience with ConvertKit here.

Why email marketing

There are many reasons to start email marketing and here I am going to list and discuss a few of them.

You have more control

There are many ways to build a list online, you can do this by starting a Youtube channel and your subscribers is your list, you can build Instagram followers, you can do the same with Facebook and many other social media platforms, but there is one major problem with those, you don’t control them, a policy change, an algorithm change can wipe out all your following on the brink of an eye, when you have your own email list you have more control and for any reason if the autoresponder company want to shut you down, they will let you download your list.

There is no limit of how many of your subscribers you can reach

Most social media platforms will limit your organic reach, even if you have 10000 YouTube subscribers, when you publish a new video it will not reach all of them, they want you to pay to reach more people, but if do you have 10000 email subscribers and you send an email all of them will get your email.

Higher return of investment

There is research that came to a conclusion that you will earn around $40 for every $1 you invest in email marketing, this is a very lucrative business, again that is why every company is after your email address, you should too.

Ability to print money

This is one of the most powerful aspects of email marketing, literally, you will be able to print money from the thin air.

Imagine this, you have 10000 persons in your mailing list, you wake up in the morning and you realize that you need $5000 asap because there is an emergency, you sit down, in 20 minutes you find a product that cost $100, and they pay you 50% in commissions, you study the products and you are convinced that it will help your audience, you write an email and sent it to your list, recommending that affiliate product.

If only 2000 people open your email and out of those 1000 clicks your affiliate link that is 1000 clicks to the offer and if just 100 of them buys, you will have enough money to pay for your emergency (it could be more if you have a good relationship with your audience and the offer has some upsells).

I am not saying you will be able to do this since day one, that will be stupid, but with time if you learn how to do email marketing in the right way you will be able to do to this in the regular basis.

Forget about $5000 days, you can do this and pull a lot of $100 days, and in my opinion, this is enough to have a good life in the most part of the world.

If do you want to learn more about doing this you can check out a course called mailing for money by Ben Martin.

The difference between list building and email marketing

Many people get confused when they see terms list building and email marketing and sometimes they interchange them. Here is the difference between them.

List building is the process of adding prospects to your email list (I will write a guide about this in a few days), this includes picking the market in which do you want to build your list, creating a lead magnet or a freebie to give away as an incentive for people to join your email list, creating a landing page or a squeeze page, choosing your autoresponder service and deciding your traffic strategy.

While email marketing the process of sending email to your list, this can be promotional emails, educational emails or a combination of both.

The main purpose of email marketing is to build a relationship between you and your prospects, you need to write those emails as if you’re writing them to your own friend.

You see, people tend to buy from people they trust, if you can earn trust from a group of persons, they can buy most of the things you will recommend to them and this will make you money in the process.

In few words list building is everything that happens before your prospects give you their email address and email marketing is everything that happens after that.

7 steps to start email marketing for beginners

So these are the 7 steps you need to start email marketing especially if you’re a beginner.

Step 1: Pick an email marketing platform

Earlier in this post, I talked about the best email marketing platform, and that is ConvertKit, If do you want a simple design, powerful automation and a modern email marketing platform for content creators this is it.

Convetkit have a 14 days trial and then $29 per month up to 1000 subscribers, remember the cost increases as your number of subscribers increases.

If you don’t have money to invest, for now, you can start with Aweber, they have a 30 days free trial, they are reliable, easy to use and beginner friends.

Start email Marketing for Beginners Aweber marketing

If you’re doing email marketing for the first time in your life go with Aweber and them when you start making some money move to ConvertKit.

Each of those two email marketing platforms has a lot of tutorials on how to use them. If do you find any problem, let me know via the contact form and I will be glad to help you.

Step 2: Set up a website and a professional email address

It does not matter if you are using Youtube, Podcast, Facebook or any other marketing channel, you need a website as the central hub of your online business.

In order to create a website, you need a domain name, the easiest domain name you can get is your own name, just go to namecheap.com and buy a domain name for less than $10.

Also, you will need a hosting service, if you are just starting out I will recommend you to get started with Sitegroud, they are fast reliable and relatively cheap. You can get a 60% discount on Sitegroud by clicking the link below.

Start email Marketing for Beginners siteground

Can simply install a WordPress on your domain name, if by any means you can’t do this let me know and I will help you to install a WordPress site for free.

Also, you will need to set up a professional email address, this is because when you use a free email address like gmail.com, hotmail.com there is a big chance that your emails will end up in a spam box, also having an email address like yourname@yourname.com will increase trust and it is more professional.

You can use Gsuite to create your professional email address.

Step 3: Create a lead magnet

The third step is building a lead magnet; this is a part that most people ignore but yet it is a very important one. You need to ethical bribe your prospects to join your list, you need to find what is your audience main problem and offer them something that will help them to solve this problem in exchange of their email list.

A lead magnet does not have to be complicated, you can create a one-page PDF checklist on foods you never eat to lose weight or a pdf on 5 steps to build your email list.

The main thing about this is that your lead magnet should be practical, easy to consume and directly to the point.

Also, you can a video, audio or even an article as your lead magnet, you don’t need to over complicate this. Just do it.

Step 4: Build a Squeeze page or Opt-in Form

So now you have an email marketing platform and a lead magnet ready, the next step is to create an opt-in form in order to give away your lead magnet. You will need to connect your opt-in form to your email marketing platform.

I always recommend to just ask for an email address for exchange with a lead magnet, but if do you want to add personalization you can ask for a name too, don’t ask their phone number or zip code, remember less is more.

This is how it works, a prospects go to your website and he/she find a landing page offering a lead magnet, he/she thinks that it is exactly what he/she needs, they give you an email address, they get added to your email marketing platform which instantly them a thank you message with a download link.

You can build your squeeze page using WordPress plugins or if you can code you can build one coding from scratch, on my case I use Clickfunnels to build my squeeze pages

Step 5: Create the main email list

When you’re new you just need to create one email list or email sequence, you can name it according to your free gift (I will talk about this in the next step).

If you are using ConvertKit they call them a sequence, you just need to go and create a sequence and follow the instructions (again there is a lot of information about this in the ConvertKit website).

convertkit sequence

If you’re Using Aweber, they call this a list, you will go and create a list, give it a name and description, a reply email (the email you created in step 2) and you’re good to go.

 aweber list

Step 6: Create a Welcome message and a Soap Opera Email Sequence

After your prospects opt-in, you will need to send them a thank you message, the purpose of this message is to introduce yourself to your prospects, thank them for getting your lead magnet, tell them what they can do with it, give them the download link and tell them what to expect from you in the future, that is the main purpose of your first email.

After creating a thank you email, then you need to create and set up a Soap Opera Sequence.

Start email Marketing for Beginners soap opera emails

In few words Soap Opera Sequence (SOS for short) as a sequence of emails that move subscribers through a serialized narrative, like this: In the example above, SOS #1 is a sequence of 4 to 5 emails. … The main aim of this sequence is to introduce you and your services/products to your prospects

This the method I learned from Russell Brunson in his famous book DotcomSecrets, you can get it here for free.

Step 7: Send Seinfeld emails

Do you remember a famous sitcom Seinfeld? It was a comedy sitcom about nothing, there was no pre-written script, all they used to do was, make episodes about their daily life, for example, if they go to coffee shop, whatever happened there it was an episode, the same thing if they go to a restaurant or hospital, they made a whole series about nothing.

Seinfeld emails are basically emails about nothing—oddly enough, they’re effective. When writing a Seinfeld email, connect with people in your writing while subtly leading them to your products and services too

Start email Marketing for Beginners seinfed email

These can be your content, the conversation you have with people in social media or in daily life, trending news of the day, it can be anything, the main thing here is that in each of these emails you need to connect them to the product your promoting, this is like making money without being too pushy.

People will be entertained and they will buy through your link and you will make much more money.

This also I learned from Russell Brunson, DotCOmSetrets book, again you can get it here:

My ConvertKit Review

my convertkit review

This month I finally made up my mind and decided to switch from Aweber to ConvertKit and here is my ConvertKit review and experience so far.

Why did I decide to move?

To be honest with you I didn’t completely ditch Aweber, I still think it is one of the best email marketing tools on the internet. I decided to test ConvertKit as a result of starting a new blog (this blog), I wanted to use ConverKit as my autoresponder for all leads I generate from this blog, as I heard a lot of good things from my mentor, I said why not let me give it a try.

What is ConvertKit?

my convertkit review

In a few words, Convetkit is an email service provider for bloggers, podcasters, and businesses who are looking to build an audience.

 The platform allows you to:

  • build many email lists as needed
  • automate email marketing with simple drag and drop sequences
  • build landing page templates
  • segment subscribers by tags (their interests)
  • and more.

Best ConvertKit features for increasing conversions

After I started using ConvertKit, I find these to be the best ConvertKit features.

Email automation and segmentation

ConvertKit allows you to automate email distribution as well as segment subscribers. What this means is that it can segment every email using tags.

You can segment your leads depending on how they sign up, depending on the links they click, also you can separate buyers and non-buyers.

How do you do that?

In most email marketing systems, you will have to do it manually. ConvertKit allows you to personalize the email based on the subscriber’s actions or with a tag indicating an action they took. All you need to do is change the tag, update the content and you are good to go.

Visual automation editor

I like ConvertKit’s Visual automation editor and so will you. It is easy to use, especially when compared to other visual editors I have used.

For those who know me, I started my list building using GVO autoresponder, then I went with Getresponse, they made some changes I didn’t like I decided to move to Aweber and now ConvertKit.

If you compare with those three I used previously using ConvertKit is like being in a dreamland.

Every editing step in your automation workflow is seamless. It even gets better, the editor handles everything. So you are not going to lose the context. You can also edit the forms pretty much the same way.

Lead Magnet Double Opt-in

People often think that double opt-on is better than single opt-in, while others think otherwise. But, having a double opt-in improves your email. Yet, in most cases, it hurts your conversation.

Using a lead magnet may solve this problem. When a user clicks a call to action, they can get their freebie without confirming they are opt-in. This means getting the best of both worlds.

ConvertKit will let you use a single opt-in. When people click the subscribe button, ConvertKit adds them to your list. They do not need to confirm their email address.

Auto Resend Broadcast

There are chances that every time you send a broadcast email, only a few of your subscribers will open it.

Most of your subscribers will not open it due to different reasons from bad timing, your headline, they don’t remember you, etc.

ConvertKit allows you to resend the broadcast to those who did not open it. But this time, you can make changes to your email.

Key benefits of ConvertKit

Ease of use – ConvertKit features easy to understand processes. Nathan focused on making email marketing easy to use for someone like you and me.

Automation – I love the automation features of this system. You can automate your email to all your subscribers, as well as segment them based on their interests.

Outstanding customer service – One of the key benefits of this platform is the support system. Most email tools out there have inadequate support. You will have to browse Google or Youtube to find solutions to a problem.

Pricing – ConvertKit allows you to grow your subscriber’s list, but not at a hefty price. The platform sets its prices based on the number of subscribers. Not based on the number of lists, which will result in double counts.

ConvertKit focuses on the subscriber. Most of the autoresponder companies will charge you depending on the number of lists you have.

For example, if do you have 3 different lists and it happened that I subscribed to all your three lists most autoresponders will count me as three subscribers and since they charge you depending on the number of subscribers you might pay higher rates because of these repeated subscribers.

On the other end, ConvertKit will count me as one subscriber and just give me different tags, this will reduce your monthly fees.

It can save you money. If you have a blog, you really don’t need third-party tools (this can save you money because you don’t have to pay for them), with ConvertKit you can create popups and you can decide when and where do you want them to show up, you can decide to show them when a visitor intent to exit, you can decide to show them up when a visitor has been on a page for a certain time, or when a visitor has read a  certain percentage of your page.

Also, you can decide to show the sign-up form before, in the middle, or at the end of your content, all these are possible by using their WordPress plugin.

The problem I faced when I joined ConvertKit

As I said, I like their automation feature, but when I started out, I watched the intro videos, I created my first sequence, my first form, and my first automation, but I forgot to turn on the automation.

What happened is that people were joining my list but they were not getting emails from the sequence, when I realized this was three days later but I turned it on and everything started to work smoothly.

Pros and Cons

Pros

Landing page editor

As I said above ConvertKit has a decent landing page editor, you can use their editor to create a beautiful landing page and the best part of it is that they can host it for you or you can use their integration to host it on your site.

Responsible support: A very helpful support team who will promptly answer your questions.

Flexible: The auto-sequence capability is impressive. It allows you to organize subscribers in the best way possible.

Versatile: Bloggers, podcasters, artists, and those with side hustles can build customer lists.

Customizable templates: ConvertKit has predesigned templates for almost everything whether its email, newsletter and landing page.

Signup forms: Comes with a form builder, so you can create multiple opt-in forms and place them on your site.

Cons

For me, the only thing I can think of is that it may take a slight learning curve to fully use ConvertKit especially if you are switching from a standard autoresponder like Aweber.

The reason for this is that they have some unique features that you can’t find in most autoresponders.

But their very active support team and a huge knowledge base can help you to shorten the learning curve and once you learn it you will enjoy the benefits of ConvertKit.

Who I will recommend to

In my opinion, ConvertKit is the best tool for content creators, if do you have a podcast, a youtube channel, or a blog this is ideal for you.

If you’re using paid traffic I will recommend using it with other high-end landing page builders like Clickfunnels, if you use a low-end landing page builder or using solo ads to drive traffic, Aweber is your best option.

Final word

This is my ConvertKit review, as I said above, I just started using it, but so far I have been impressed by this tool, for me, it is the best email marketing tool I ever used so far.

I follow the owner, and I know he is working very hard to improve this service and I expect this email tool to continue getting better.

Email Marketing

Email marketing can be divided into two main styles; bulk email marketing campaigns, and opt-in letters and updates. While both of these methods are dependent on the medium of email to maximize your visibility, both of these methods work in drastically different ways.

Email Marketing

Bulk Email Marketing

These types of marketing campaigns usually deal with having to purchase a bulk mailing list from organizations and sending mass emails to the addresses on the list with information that contains excerpts, commercial advertising, newsletters, promotional materials or offers, etc.

However, since you obtained the data from a third-party, your efforts may result in many of the email recipients sending your email blasts directly to their spam folder.

This will result in your credibility being lowered in accordance with the parameters of the email service provider.

Once your credibility is lowered, any promotional materials that you would send to these recipients would automatically be flagged as junk and immediately placed in a junk folder, never to be seen again. Taking this approach to email marketing will not increase your traffic significantly.

Opt-In Email Marketing

While this method will require more time and effort on your part, it has been shown to perform better. If you have an email list stored in an email program like Outlook or Gmail, you don’t really have an email list.

In order to build a professional, legal, and valuable opt-in only email list, you will need to learn how to use an autoresponder. An autoresponder allows you to create an email list where every single person on the list has asked to be on your list, and their information has been verified.

This is extremely important when it comes to driving more traffic to your site.

The first step in building a legitimate email list is to get an autoresponder. Your autoresponder is the key software system that manages your email list for you. It is important that you choose one that is reliable and take the time to learn how to use it as best you can.

There are numerous free and paid autoresponders on the market to choose from, so you’ll need to do your research to determine which one will work best.

Create an Opt-In Form

As soon as you’ve chosen your autoresponder, you’ll need to build an opt-in form so that people can sign up for your email list. While every autoresponder has a slightly different layout and system for creating an opt-in form, they all have the following basic components.

  • A custom design tool for web forms. This allows you to change the text, color, size, fonts, and other features.
  • A thank you, or confirmation page link. This will provide you with a redirect to a custom thank you page link.
  • An “already subscribed” page link. This will redirect anyone who is already subscribed to your email list who fills out your web form.

Create a Web Page to Host Your Opt-in Form

If you don’t have a webpage and don’t know how to build one, you will want to use an autoresponder that will host your web form for you.

While this isn’t always the best option for maximizing your conversions, it is included in the price of your autoresponder. It usually takes a single click to set it up, so you don’t need to understand HTML or coding to get your page up and running.

Also, you can use a page creator like Clickfunnels to create your opt-in pages.

Choose Single or Double Opt-In

A single opt-in web form is when a subscriber fills out your form and is immediately subscribed to your list. They only have to opt-in once. A double opt-in is when a subscriber must click a link sent to them in an email, after opting-in to your form, to confirm their opt-in.

The two-step process requires them to fill out the opt-in form on your site, and then verify their subscription by clicking a confirmation link in an email. There are benefits and drawback to each method.

The benefits of a single opt-in form are that you’ll get more email subscribers, building your list faster.

However, you may get more fake emails, as well as possibly receiving more spam complaints.

The double opt-in benefits are that you’ll only have subscribers on your list who were committed enough to opt-in twice. The drawback is that you will have a smaller list.

If you choose a double opt-in, you will need to have an extra web page, usually a confirmation page, that asks your subscriber to confirm their information.

Create a Gift of Deliverable

Once someone has opted-in to subscribing to your email list, you’ll need to deliver on your promises. If you promised them a free report or training video, then you need to give it to them right away on the thank you page.

Make it fast and easy for them to access the information you promised. Include a simple link to the download page, or have the autoresponder automatically forward them directly to the page where the content is delivered.

Set Up a Thank You Page

The thank-you page that you develop should deliver the gift that you promised for subscribing to your list, along with thanking them and providing instruction for the next steps they should take.

All of the different autoresponders will have a standard thank you page that you can use. However, you will want to create your own custom thank you page.

Test Your System

Once you’ve completed the first steps, it’s time to start testing your system. Go through and sign up for your email list yourself and go through the same steps that your subscribers will have to take.

Make sure that the opt-in form works, check every page and stage of the process to make sure that all the links, buttons, and web pages work correctly before you start sending traffic to your new opt-in page.

Doing this will help you avoid any problems or disappointed subscribers. Nothing will turn people off faster than a broken opt-in form or not delivering what you promised.

Now that you’ve successfully created an email marketing system and tested it, it is now time to send traffic to the page that is housing your opt-in form.

Using Squeeze Pages

A squeeze page is a single web page where someone can opt-in to your email list. They are specially designed to host a web form and don’t usually have any other active links or navigation options on the page.

This is so browsers can either opt-in to your email list or leave the page. By limiting the navigation options, squeeze pages will convert five to 20 times more visitors than if you were to place an opt-in form that is hosted on your blog.

As a general rule of thumb, you should always be linking your squeeze page to every piece of content that you have online.
